Announcement
[A version of this message was distributed to all Drupal Cloud web content editors via email on September 11, 2024]
Between 5pm on Thursday, September 19 an 8am on Monday, September 23, Brown will be upgrading all Drupal Cloud websites from Drupal 9 to Drupal 10. (Our last Drupal upgrade was nearly three years ago in 2021.)
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the Office of University Communications (OUC) are partnering on this upgrade. The transition from Drupal 9 to 10 will occur behind the scenes. Web content editors don't need to take any action to prepare, and published websites will remain live throughout the process.
Editing Restrictions During the Upgrade
Web content editors should not make any edits or changes to their websites during the upgrade period (5pm on Thursday, September 19 until 8am on Monday, September 23).
What to Expect After the Upgrade
The upgrade will bring about substantial changes to all of the Drupal Cloud screens used to create and maintain webpages (e.g., the content tab, editing screen and admin toolbar). With an updated visual theme, the new interface will have a clean, and more modern, look and feel.
While the editing interface in Drupal 10 will be different, it is still intuitive and many of the items you use as a web content editor (admin buttons and links) will be in the same place. For more information, including screenshots, please refer to our recent announcement about enhancements to the editing experience.
It’s important to note the upgrade to Drupal 10 will not change the appearance of your published website or the experience for website visitors in any way.
